Wimborne Minster BH21 An ancient and historical market town. Wimborne is the main centre for the District of East Dorset. Its history can be traced back to 300BC but it was in King Alfred's time that Wimborne was established as a town of importance. The very beautiful Minster dates from the early 10th Century, but much of the structure was built in the early 13th Century. In the Minster is the famous chain library and close by the Priest House, now a museum. The town's commercial importance is based on its industrial estates.
Population 6500 (2001) Dwellings 3269 35% of the population is over 60 years. Average Current Values approx. £270,000 Average annual price growth over last 5 years is 11%. Approximately 4 miles to the north of Poole the river Stour runs through the town. Corfe Mullen and Merley have inched ever closer with the wet lands around the river Stour preventing any closer association. It has a good mixture of local and national shops, doctors surgeries, schools and its own theatre. There are a number of restaurants in the town and accommodation to suit every pocket. The town has seen strong property growth and this seems set to continue. (October 2007) Waitrose the supermarket chain are negotiating a town centre site for the location of a new supermarket. Road Links to Ringwood on the A31 and then onto the M27 M3 to London. Avoid the A31 on Bank Holidays and sunny week-ends as the entire population of London is heading for the beaches! Our View Handy for local beaches, Bournemouth, Poole and Bournemouth International Airport. Pleasant town with good walks nearby, adequate local shopping, doctors surgeries, car parks and its own theatre. Many people being forced to look further afield because of a lack of marketed property and rising costs. Some sheltered accommodation in the town centre.
