Sixpenny Handley SP 5 Population Approx. 1200 Average House Price. £287,000. The Village sits just north of the A354 between Blandford and Salisbury within the Cranborne Chase, once the hunting place of the Kings of England. The name is an adaption by the villagers of two ancient hundreds 'Sexpenna’ and ‘Handlegga’. The Salisbury to Dorchester Roman Road can be clearly seen and followed for much of its length. In 1892 virtually the entire village was destroyed by fire. The village church dates back to the 13th century. Once the home of Dorset's most prolific and famous smuggler Isaac Gulliver who operated along the entire Dorset Coast. Local Amenities Post Office Stores. Surgery. First School. Nursery in Village Hall. Village Hall. The Roebuck Inn
Transport Local Bus Service. Nearest Station Tisbury (8 miles) Nearest Airport Bournemouth 15 miles. Our View. A pleasant enough village ideally located for those who enjoy the country life but are not too far from civilisation. The Cranborne Chase gives the impression that the village is more isolated than it is. Most of the houses in the village are less than 100 years old which does not give it the wow factor of many of its neighbours with their pretty thatched cottages. There is a thriving sporting theme with a number of activities represented.
